Could 3D printed organs be a thing of the future?

Well it seems that scientists in North Carolina believe so, as they are working hard to develop a technology that will allow this amazing theory to come to life!

The initial thought sounds a little dark, almost like harvesting organs to keep humans alive forever or to even create super-humans, but this is not the case. The idea of this 3D organ printing would be to create new hip-bones for old ladies who’s bones don’t heal as easily, or to create a new ear if your ear was to somehow fall off, that sort of thing.. for now.

It is common knowledge that organs are in constant demand, so can you imagine if it was as simple as creating a machine that would be able to print out a fully functional, compatible organ to your body? The possibilities would be endless. Obviously I’m making this process sound super easy to achieve, but its far from it. The scientists working on this ‘organ printer’ are top of the line, and are dedicating endless hours to research and development, it has been so far dubbed plausible, but who knows how many years it could take for this dream to become a reality.

Right now it’s a waiting game, but until then, please enjoy this video of Derby the dog loving his new life with his 3D printed legs!
