“Here at Roughan & O’Donovan Consulting Engineers, we place huge importance on the quality of the reproduction of our work, especially on printed paper.
In 2012, the opportunity arose to examine our fleet of print devices and our print management software. We spent a considerable amount of time and effort examining the solutions from several major print service providers.
We introduced a rigorous test environment and asked the major vendors to submit a device to our test environment. We ran this testing process for approx 3 months, comparing different devices from different manufacturers based on resilience, print quality, maintenance logs, usability, consumable costs and technical support.
After the testing process we found that the Olivetti MF452 with EFi Fiery controllers best suited our requirements in terms or reliability, quality, durability and consistency. Many of the other solutions would probably have been suitable after some tweaking and technical configuration but the Olivetti machines worked almost immediately out of the box.
We do a large volume of AutoCAD, PDF and graphical type document printing and noticed that some of the other solutions were unable to spool the large PDF or graphic files in a timely manner leading to a slowdown in productivity.
By combining the EFi Fiery controller device with the Olivetti MF452 multifunction device, Highline Technology were able to put together a solution which helped us achieve the desired print consistency, quality and rate.
Again, we examined the market for suitable print control packages to help manage our print volume and again, through ongoing, testing and consultation with Highline Technology we opted for the PaperCut software package including swipe access control to minimise print volume where possible.
Throughout our migration journey from older inefficient printing devices to our modern Olivetti & EFi MF452 devices, Highline Technology have demonstrated and provided us with in-depth knowledge of the printer industry and print market in general, excellent technical assistance and the comforting assurance that we are taking the best step forward for the business to continue to prosper.
Recently we have replaced a number of other smaller print systems with an Olivetti MF452+ unit which has again allowed us to further reduce our print costs.
In a recent review of our printing costs we conservatively estimate that that we reduced our overall print cost by 45% in year 1 by reduced cost per click and reduced wastage printing through Papercut.
The 2 following years have seen this lower cost of printing maintained.

One of the key offerings from Highline that attracted ROD was their proactive approach to account management. Highline have schedule an engineer to visit site every week to run general diagnostic tests on all print equipment which has proven an invaluable service to maintain the fleet in good condition.
In order to increase productivity and avoid users waiting for print jobs to spool to specific printers, ROD introduced Virtual Queue Printing along with swipe card release so that users could send their jobs to a virtual queue and collect the printout for any idle printer. This technology has improved overall print efficiency and reduced end user wait times.”
